Hacker Guard

Recently, I came upon a blog post from Chad McDonald in CSO online. The post discussed one of SANS Instructor John Strand's new two day courses, "Offensive CounterMeasures", which Mr. McDonald described as "perhaps the most thought provoking course that I've had the luxury of attending in my 16 or so years in technology." We bring this to your attention because John Strand's new SANS course, "SANS HackerGuard", covers similar material in a manner that can be easily digested by people without much background in security at all, IT System Administrators. The SANS Hacker Guard course shows the dangers of relying on anti-virus, intrusion detection and firewall technologies, and encourages IT Managers to think outside the box by involving system administrators in the efforts to detect the hundreds of incidents of unauthorized access to systems.
